Frequently Asked Questions

Joining a choir for the first time can sometimes be a daunting experience. We do our very best to be as welcoming and friendly as possible. If you're thinking about joining and have some questions, you might find the answers below, but if not, drop me a message using the link below:

Do I need to bring anything with me?
Nope, just yourself - although I would recommend bringing a bottle of water.

How long is each term?
Usually 10 weeks, with a 1 week break in the middle inline with the local school terms (although this can sometimes vary depending on when the school term begins and ends).

Is there an audition to join?
Not at all! All voices are welcome!

I have never sung before/ I haven't sung since I was at school / I have been told I can't sing, can I still join?
Absolutely! If you're not sure where your voice will fit into the choir, let me know and I can help you find the part that your voice naturally leans towards. Lots of members who have been along to the choir have either not sung for a long time, or have never sung in a group before, you'll be just fine!

Do I need to be able to read sheet music?
No, everything is taught through call and response (I sing a bit, you sing it back).

Is the choir affiliated with the church?
We are really lucky to receive a lot of support from the church and enjoy working with the team who run the building, however, the choir is not affiliated with any specific religion, tradition or faith.

I won't be able to make it every week, is that okay?
Yes of course! Totally understanding that life gets busy sometimes!

What kind of music do you sing?
We sing a variety of music from around the world, including: indigenous folk music, gospel, pop, spiritual and more!

Are there any gigs? Do I have to perform?
There are usually at least four or so gigs throughout the year. These are optional, so there is no obligation to get up and sing in-front of an audience if you do not want to.

I'm not sure I'll be able to afford a full term all at once, what should I do?
Let me know! Money should never be a barrier for anyone joining the choir. The best thing to do is to let me know. I am able to offer a limited number of discounted places within the choir.

Why can't I access the members page of the website?
Members are able to request the password for this section of the website. On this page are all of the sound files for the songs we're working on this term, for you to listen to at your leisure.

Is Pulse Choir the funnest local community choir?
We think so, but you will have to come and decide for yourself!
